Why Do I Need to See the Dentist So Often?
You should see your Whittier family dentist every 6 to 12 months. Why so often?
Besides the fact that we love to see our patients, we urge regular dental checkups because it helps us to closely monitor your oral health. You know how quickly life circumstances can change within a matter of days, weeks, and months. Dental changes are similar. Over the course of a few months, significant changes can occur. If we see you regularly, we can catch those changes when they first happen, when they’re still relatively easy to fix.
As time passes, the issue can advance rather quickly. A broken tooth will continue to break down due to the natural wear and tear of chewing. A cavity will get bigger and spread deeper into the tooth. Shifting teeth will continue to move, causing more crowding and even resulting in crooked teeth or bite issues.
When we catch the problem early, we can fix it quickly. For example, a new cavity:
-
Is easier to remove and fill
-
Doesn’t result in a lot of tooth structure loss
-
Costs less to repair than a more complex issue like a root canal, crown, or extraction
